Your Open Vista VDI workstation is a complete desktop hosted in the cloud: it opens in a browser, needs no installation, and gives you the same environment at every login. This guide walks you through your first connection.
What you receive
The VDI Workstation order gives you a virtual desktop accessible from a browser, with nothing to install on your computer. The operating system is chosen when the service is set up: Windows 11, Ubuntu or Kali depending on your needs. A recent browser and a stable connection are enough to work.
Getting the address and credentials
The access address, username and password are sent after ordering. They also appear in your client area, in the service details. Change the password at first login when the system allows it, and keep it in a password manager rather than in a file or an email.
Connecting from the browser
- Open a recent browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.
- Enter the access address you received, then your credentials.
- Allow pop-ups and full screen if the browser asks for them.
- Wait while the desktop loads: the session starts with your profile.
The first start can take longer than the following ones. Do not close the tab during initialisation.
First settings on the workstation
Once the desktop appears, check the language and keyboard, then enable sound. Install the applications you need and save your documents in the folder provided by the plan. If your workstation is configured without a persistent profile, files left on the desktop do not survive logout: ask support about the exact behaviour of your workstation before storing critical data there.
Logging out properly
Close the running applications, save your documents, then use the logout provided in the desktop or in the access toolbar. Simply closing the browser tab can leave the session open and delay the next login.
If the connection fails
- Check the exact address and the spelling of the username.
- Try private browsing, then another browser.
- Check your Internet connection and available bandwidth.
- Open a ticket with the time of the attempt and the full error message.
